Need a Spot
Changing the coolant on my '03 Camry. The tech at the local Toyota dealer said that using DEX-Cool would be fine. Do these systems really need to be flushed thoroughly before putting in fresh coolant? If DEX-Cool mixes with the old Toyota coolant will it hurt anything?

Also, my truck has an aluminum radiator with the old green coolant...I should be running DEX-Cool with an aluminum radiator should't I?

Thanks for any input!

Dex-cool? No way. It doesn't mix with anything. Besides, It's been known to clog up GM radiators. No way would I put it in my Toyota. Your Camry came with Toyota red coolant, thats what you should put back in it.

I'd put Toyota red in your truck too. Either that or green.

Yeah dont use dexcool. Just use whatever coolant was in there before, if it was red use red if it was green, use green. If you're gonna be switching coolants then make sure you flush all the old stuff out. Keep flushing it out until the water runs clear. Ive been using prestone green in mine and it works just fine. Once a year i'll drain and flush the radiator and the block, and then fill'er back up with a 50/50 mix.

Don't forget to set the temperature control to hot before you do the flush, so that you open up the heater core and flush it too.

Also, use DISTILLED water, NOT regular tap or hose water.

It tyipcally has lots of minerals in it. They will precipicate out in the cooling system and leave deposits inside.
