Need a Spot
Would someone please post a pic or describe the location of this unit on the dash pad? What I need is the distance between the left side of the unit and the right side of the instrument cluster cover.
Also, is the male connector that plugs into the unit incorporated into the wiring harness? Given that these units were only on 4Runners, I believe the connector may have been incorporated as part of the wiring harness. If correct, this means I'll have to fab up my own connection which isn't a big deal. I'd like however, to utilize a stock connection if possible.
Virginia locates its inspection sticker at the bottom, center of the windshield. That location makes the sticker a royal pain to remove/install with the clinometer mounted directly in front of it.
I know the dash pads are the same for both the 4Runner and P/U. I bought this unit and now wonder if it's going to be worth the installation. I can't see having to remove the dash pad every year to deal with the inspection sticker.

Easy.
When you remove your dash pad, the sheetmetal under the pad already has holes through it for your mount. Worked like a champ in my buddies '86.
It'll be self explainatory when you remove the pad, then look at the bottom. I think all pads are made with provisions for it. Kinda like the handle you can put above your driver side. Cool stuff man. Jam a screwdriver through it and bolt in the mount. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks! I shoulda figured out the mounting aspect of the unit for myself. Toyota has always been very good about providing provisions for different setups. That's one reason why they've become as good as they are.
I still need to know if the wiring supplying the unit power for its lights was incorporated in the main wiring harness. This may only have been done on the 4Runner's and not the P/U's.
Even after all of this, I have yet to see how stickers on the windshield can be removed or installed with the unit being in the way.
Thanks much again Staceman!!

In my buddy's case, no.
You'll need to tap into the lamp power used behind the A/C - Heater control plate.
I tried to tap into the dimmer switch, what a nightmare!
