Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone had any info on either an over temp kill switch or low oil pressure kill switch? I have to believe that since these motors were used in industrial (forklifts) and marine applications that OEM items exist allready.

Thanx,
Randy

No - there are safety implications in shutting down a motor when it is driving at freeway speeds, even if it is overheating and/or out of oil. Besides, the 22rte used a first generation digital ECU - very few frills and the only built-in safeguards, like the overboost fuel cut protection that is present, aren't all that well executed. Just be thankful the thing works at all <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

22R series in forklifts and boats? I had heard that the ct20 might be a forklift turbo.. but never heard of a 22R series in either...

I was thinking the other day that their might be a market for an inexpensive temp warning device - maybe a flashing LED or LED w/ buzzer. Pretty easy to do with a comparitor circuit and could be adjusted to the setting that you desire. Could be done "plug-in" with existing sensors.
What do you think?

You wouldn't want an auto kill.. Modern EFI doesn't kill the car, it just starts a "limp" mode - where your RPM/speed are limited. There are other implications of hard killing a spooled up turbo also.

Ah, so you are trying to kill her.

Rig up a siren and flashing light if you need to, to get her attention. But turning off the engine, like when it overheats on the highway with her in the middle lane, all you'll do is ensure she gets squashed by the semi riding her tail.
