The radial puts a flat patch on the ground by way of it's design. The bias ground patch can bend and wiggle because of it's design.
The sidewalls of MOST bias plys will withstand more punishment than MOST radials.
The radials are always more comfortable to the rider than the bias ply.
My choice will always be one of the STRONGER radials.. Goodyear and Firestone both make really heavy duty off road radials. So far I have went with the Firestones but the goodyears may be next.

Body Damage is Cool
I agree with BJ. My 35" BFG Mud Terrains on my CJ and my Dodge truck have gone to hell and back, and I've never had any problems with them, either on the street, or at 12 psi off road, or at 6 psi on the sand.

yea what BJ said. although i had 2 sets on rims for my 73 chevy a radial set for the road and a bias ply set for when i went four wheeling. it pays to have a neighbor/friend that lets you store your tires and install them at his garage. it also helped him his sons and his cousin would all go as well. Back to the point radials are best on road bias ply works better off road if you want to do more on road than off or just mild off road go radial.

BJ i have a couple reccomendaions on goodyears, The fortera triple tread, and the wrangler silent armor. high milage tires and great traction. and if you actually have a car the assurance triple tread , those are actually rated at 80 k and are on consumer reports best buy,and won awards. hence the reason goodyear stocks are rising....dang i knew i should have bought some when i had the chance lol.

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

Boy I remember bumping down the road, waiting for the old bias ply tires to work out the flat spots after sitting all night in the cold. Radials dont do this as bad. This isnt an issue for off roading. Bias tires are typically tougher on the sidewall than radials altho in recent years radials have really improved on this. Personally I would use bias ply tires for strictly off roading and radials on my road machine. Just my .02. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
