So it is time or a little past time to get the timing belt changed on my 99. When shopping around for pricing, I have gotten 2 quotes from the dealer and others. One for just changing the belt and another for doing the water pump and the belt. I am assuming I should just do the pump at the same time but wanted to get thoughts since it is around $200 more. What is the average life span of the factory installed water pump?

Also, if anyone has had their timing belts done recently, what have you been paying so I can compare.
Thanks!

I'd do the whole job yourself and save big bucks on labor charges -- it isn't that hard, and there is a great tech article on this website.

IMHO, water pumps aren't expensive enough to not replace them when you do the belt -- Toyota stuff does last longer than other brands, but who wants the hassle of having to basically re-do the belt because the old pump starts to leak?

Body Damage is Cool
Typically when doing a job like a timing chain/belt, replacing parts removed as part of the job (ie, H2O pump, belts, hoses) is a good idea. They will fail, probably sooner than later. Unless those parts have already been replaced recently.
