Getting the Wheeling Fever
I replaced my clutch master cylinder over the weekend. I bled the lines and all was well, but today as it warmed up the clutch began to get firmer and firmer as though the pressure in the fluid was going up until it got to the point where the clutch would barely engage. Anyone know what might cause this? Thanks.

The fluid in the resevoir is also getting lower and lower. My guess is this new master is somehow leaking extra fluid into the line. I'm getting pretty fed up with replacing brand new parts everytime I buy them. Don't forget you've got a slave cylinder on the other end of all that stuff.

If you pull up your flooring and there isn't any fluid on the firewall, then under the truck you go.

Sounds to me like a faulty installation. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

This is a symptom of not enough push-rod free play. The piston is not fully retracting in its bore and cannot auto-compensate with the reservoir like it needs to.

The same thing can happen with the brake master cylinder and your brakes can drag and eventually lock up as the fluid warms.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it tonight. When I replaced it I lined up the freeplay to the millimeter with the one I took out and adjusted according to the manual but that is a great theory. I'll try it.
