Has anyone done a solid front axle conversion on their swb? If so what axle assembly is most common to use. In the archives I found the genII conversion but nothing for the swb. Any thoughts or ideas.I am trying to see if this conversion is worth the effort, time and expense.

Mine is in the process o getting a Dana 44. There is no "common" axle as SAS on these isn't very common. Lots of axle choices out there...

Jeep Waggy driver drop d44 with matching 6on5.5 lug pattern. Frank in AUS i think got a Toyota axle re-tubed to driver drop. You can flip a Toyota PU axle too, with some work.

Look for Landraider on here, leeraider did one too. Monty90 maybe, was that his name? Couple others.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Well. you'd do good to search using the term "SAS".

You could also search through all my posts.

Also LeeRaider is a good name to search under.

Most all of us that have DIY'd a SAS used a Wagoneer Narrow Track Dana 44.

On your SAS, did you "have" to change your steering to make things work, or was that a preference?

Yeah I had to put in a GM steering box. The mitsu box was a POS, and too small for the GM pump that I was running. I had problems with it boiling PS fluid before my sas. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Now I've got a big OLE saginaw steering box. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
