is a resistor and ignitor the same thing????? for a coil??? Nope. An ignitor is an electronic ignition package, a resistor just drops the voltage on a 12v system to around 6 volts. You should check your sending unit in the distributor (FSM has the tests) to see if it's working properly. Dave

A friend of mine had the same happen...going down the road and it died.....just like as if someone turned off the ignition key. Turn over but no fire. Neither he or I could believe it was the FP because we both know that the Totota FP last just about forever....well, it turns out the previous owner put in a cheapy after-market POS FP and it really did go bad. All fixed after a new one....a genuine one <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> first, you need to determine if it's a gas or spark issue....figure out a way to inject some fuel into the plenum without removing the air intake hose. AI Hose must stay connected for FP to stay energized.

well i took off the dist. cap and the rotor button did not turn. so does that mean it is 100% the timing chain. how much does that cost to have fixed?

Your next step is a visual inspection. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/timingchain/Got any tools/skills? We're here if you're a-willin'. At this point, the valve cover is to be removed to take a look-see. There's a half-moon gasket on the front of the head. There's also one on the back of the head, so make sure you don't lose them. The 22Rx is an interference engine, so hopefully you got lucky and didn't clang the pistons with the valves. ALSO, if the timing chain shot, there WILL be parts in the oil pan, which will need to come off and cleaned out. A flush will NOT do, as the drain plug boss stands up enough to where there is still about a 1/2" or so of oil still in the pan when you drain it.

Kewlynx, his sig says he has a V6, so the good news is its a non-interference and a timing belt. Easy fix. No damage done to the engine.

The 22Rx is an interference engine, so hopefully you got lucky and didn't clang the pistons with the valves. Kinda off topic a bit. What happens when the piston when they're not replace when it is damage by the valves hitting it?
