I said tube and reskin, you have the Jeep to use for a DD, keep it nice and capable but when you are gonna do serious offroading then use slinky. I just want my trooper for what you were talkin about, scenery and just going out on a whim and doin a little offroading. I contemplated doin a SAS but then its not gonna be very streetable for trips and whatnot, so I will keep ifs. You have the best of both worlds, something to wheel hard and a nice DD to go out for the weekend to go camping without all the issues of trailering and everything that comes along with that.

Why not try to sell it first for a lot of money? Someone may be willing to pay it to own a legend. If it doesn't sell, you haven't lost anything.

I voted tube it nd reskin it with amigo lines. If you gotta trailer it you might as well make is more hardcore for your purposes.

I feel you man, it's nice getting back to the true roots of four wheeling, able to just hit any two track you find and go exploring, sometimes for the scenery, some the destination, and with an occasional one or two obstacles thrown in there. I also know what it is like to have a second rig (although not up to the caliber of slinky) sitting in a drive way, not being used, still carry insurance on, and slowly rotting away.
Although I don't know if they will publicly admit it I have talked to many that have built their grocery getters into the monster trailer queens that they have become and when they all looked back on it they wished they had kept it modest and street worthy (hence my post a half year ago or so about keeping it IFS and such).
Jim's right you don't owe Isuzu anything, way to many folks get hung up on brand names, heck I never thought I'd see the day but the Isuzu name hang ups is just as bad as the Jeepers now.
Anyway, I got a pretty darn good idea what you have in that thing and it's going to make you violently ill when you find out what you're going to be offered for it. Crap we got two SAS Rodeo's and my Passport in our club and we couldn't even give them away, and it was tried multiple times. Let's face it folks don't like buying other folks built rigs. Anyway, I'd put it up on EBAY, take your losses, chalk it up to lessons learned and take the money and build a man cave in my basement.

One of the guys in my local wheeling club got rid of his trailer queen buggy and is building a CJ into a moderately capable but still streetable rig so he can ditch the tow-rig-as-daily-driver... I guess it boils down to: do you want to suborn your he-man instincts to conquer the biggest baddest trails you can in favor of more family-participatory wheeling? Do you HAVE to choose, as opposed to keeping both? How big is your garage? Jeff is right, you aren't going to get your money back out of Slinky, so if you can swing it, I would keep it around if possible for the day when you can let your inner caveman run free again (AKA, when the kids move out).

One of the guys in my local wheeling club got rid of his trailer queen buggy and is building a CJ into a moderately capable but still streetable rig so he can ditch the tow-rig-as-daily-driver... True. He also sold his tow vehicle and trailer. That was a little over a year ago. He bought a new tow vehicle and trailer last weekend. I guess its a vicious cycle. Our club also has another fella with a well built jeep on 39's. Lately he's usually seen on the trail in a mostly stock flat fender with 31" swampers. Why? because its fun. Trailering is nice for its gauranteed ability to get home. But its also nice to take the trail truck to work on a nice day. I'm not fond of exo cages. Personally I like a fully enclosed vehicle for less than ideal weather (it would never rain when I'm camping ) for the inevitable mud and sub zero trail rides (-24 last january). Its nice to be able to drive the trail truck to the trailhead from the campground. Build what you'll use the most. Sounds like a buggy and lifted daily driver to me -Mike

I would keep it around if possible for the day when you can let your inner caveman run free again (AKA, when the kids move out). If I recall correctly, Mike doesn't have any kids. So that isn't the problem. What I seem to be hearing is that Slinky doesn't get the use it should for the amount of $$ put into it. I saw the pics of your JK, and reallly like it. I also LOVE Slinky. With the other circumstances going on in your life, with your wife and what not, it sounds like selling it is the best alternative. With your JK you will be able to do most of the trails you want to do...it may take a little more time and calculating maneuvers, but they can be done for the most part. Having a trailer/tow rig doesn't mean you have to have a buggy. If you are traveling distances you can still throw the JK on there, just to ensure you get home with ease. You would also be able to just hop into the JK and go for a drive over the weekend (through the Rubicon ) It's a hard call....so much time and money invested in 1 truck. It becomes really difficult to let it go and move on(or back in this case) to something a little different.
