I mentioned before, my buddy and I found a ring gear that bolted right in the front carrier, and now he says the Pinion works as well, except the Kia flange won't work. He's going to do onw of the following.

1) Machine the "make withheld" flange to match the Kia driveshaft. Most likely.

2) Machine the Kia flange to work. Probably not.

3) Machine a new flange out of billet. Most likely later.

His interest if piqued, since no R&Ps are available domestically and might sell sets. I will not reveal the donor make or car, so please don't ask.

He is waiting on a couple of ring sets to check the rear pig, but he took measurements and believes he knows what will work. I will let you know that the ratio is over 5:1.

I told him not to get his undies in a wad as I'm not sure if anyone will buy them.

what gearing exactly is it? that would decide whether or not i would get them.

can you atleats tell us if it is stockers or something aftermarket, since you dont care to share information with us?

is it something that we would be able to pick our ratio, or just whatever the stock options were?

2000 SPORTY, DEF BOY customs, mmm....lockers, mmm... gears, mmm... double transfer case, mmm... stroker

Let me preface this by saying my sport is bone stock, and theres a 97% chance its gonna stay that way.

THIS is why there is NO SUPPORT/aftermarket parts for the kia. I understand a guy wanting to make money, but seriously, if everyone on this board let everyone else know what the parts are theyre using, another person just *might* have additional information that would make the part actually useable, instead of "this gear fits but", "these springs fit but", "these lockers fit but" and "sorry, wont tell you". seriously people, work together. its not like its top-secret.

Rant off...

here's the deal, guys, whether we like it or not, the aftermarket for the Sportage might just be getting going. recent additions to the info we have already had and, mostly, ignored, has really sparked some conversations, and now, maybe, some parts that we've been asking for for for years. don't look a gift horse in the mouth. save pennies, like everyone else. get what you want, or don't. if the guy want's to keep it secret, that's fine with me, i'd rather the coil company i use didn't emblazen their shipping boxes with their label, including address and phone number, but, hey, what can you do? in his case, if it's a stock gear and he's doing machine work to it to prep it for install, then he has all the right in the world to destroy the serial numbers and charge just about whatever he wants. now, your only bargaining chip is whether or not you'll buy it.

95 Sportage w/welded and 5.89 geared dana 44's on 38.5" TSL's.- SADLY SOLD
CURRENTLY - 2000 sportage, 5.38 gears, welded diffs, 35" tires, 5.5" lift

yeah, i know, and thats all fine and dandy. its just sad to see the sport struggle. I frequent a lot of boards and the general mentality is "check this out! i just did this and this is how i did it!" which generates a lot of replies and usually even more suggestions on how it could be made better and cheaper. a good example- i own a KTM LC4E. big dual sport. advrider.com has a dedicated thread stickied at the top with 26 PAGES of info on how to fix, maintain, mod, upgrade, clean, sell, buy or fart on the bike. the first 2 post alone have more information and links to how-to's than you could ever put in a book. just wish that mentality would rub off a little around here. just think of all the crap we would have for our sports if we were like the sammy guys!

okay okay, sorry to hijack the thread... i must be grumpy tonight. sorry.
