my passenger side parking brake is sticking and I am going to tear into her this weekend. Will I be able to bolt in new backing plates? Mine are all rusted out. Is this a dealer only item or is there somewhere I can buy some?

You have to remove the wheel bearing to swap out the backing plate. The Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement article shows you what is involved in doing that.
The backing plate is a dealer or junkyard item...

that seems like more work than I want to take on...

Plus the backing plate is $80 -

I'll have to live with rusty plates.

I had the same issue.
Bust it free, lube it good at the pivot point, and
keep it lubed. It'll be fine.

You can unbolt the parking brake assy from the backing plate.
Free it up, lube, bolt back on.

Is that a stealer price?

I got my drum off - I have a few q's

One - I had to back the adjuster star off by a lot. I'm not sure why it got so tight. The trouble started after the truck spent a week commuting in DC traffic.

I had to beat the drum like a red headed stepchild and pry at the sides at the same time to get the drum off.

I noticed that all the parts, IE, the drum pads, springs ands such connected to it, would move around. They weren't in a fixed position. That seems weird to me.

Anyway, I cranked the pads back down and slapped everything back together. I have a feeling I will be doing this again, though.

[color:"blue"]The self-adjuster is activated by pulling on the parking brake, every time you pull it, it is supposed to adjust the rear brakes [/color]

[color:"blue"]Should have sprayed around the axle flange with PB Blaster and wired brushed around the flange center to remove the rust, there are also two threaded holes in the drum that you screw bolts in to help remove the drum. You should also back off the adjustment on the brake shoes (not pads) to pull them in to help in getting the drum off. [/color]

[color:"blue"]Normal, it is a floating assembly, as long as all the parts are there, springs, pins, ect. You are golden


There is a thread at the top that has a link to an FSM, the rear brakes on all Toyota pickups and runners from 70-95 are basicly the same. [/color]
