Need a Spot
|
I have a 1985 truck with an ARB in the front and want to do an automatic locker in the back. I have priced the Detroit locker and also looked at the Lock Right as well as the Detroit E-Z locker. I know the Detroit is the way to go but also costs a lot of money. My truck is a very mild offroad truck. I have 33 inch tires and take it pretty easy offroad but just need the traction for snow and mud. What is the story with these easy to install lockers and are they any good or should I pony up the clams and get the Detroit. Any assitance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've had an Aussie too.. work well, good deal for the price. The down side is if this is a street truck a mechanical locker will change the way it drives and somewhat increase tire wear. On the 4runner, I purhcased an e-locker, which costs a bit more than the Aussie, but nothing like an ARB.

I have a Tru-Trac LSD in teh rear, and teh road manners are fabulous, almost transparent. Not as ideal offroad, but still very good.

aussie or detroit. if you learn how the locker handles you wont have any issues with handling, tire wear may increase slightly but thats a small price to pay. im ordering an aussie for my front in a week or 2 ive got a detroit rear now and on the road i rarely notice its there unless i stomp the gas in turns or engine brake in turns . a locer will lock only when power is applied so its best to coast through turns as much as possible.

I had tru-trac's f/r from the po I have since got rid of the rear for a detroit the diference was huge, now I cant wait to get an aussie 4 the front. If u have one wheel in the air with the tru-trac or any posi u have no traction 4 that axel and the drivability with the detroit is not bad just a littel harder on the tires. Go detroit or aussie & have fun with ur tru all wheel drive!!

Swap the ARB to the rear and put the auto-locker up front. That's what I've run for quite a while and I like it.
I have a lock-right in my D44 up front and its held up great for 6+ years with 35's and 37's.
