From what I've read, sometimes capacitor replacement is all that's needed. Before spending $200-300 for a full bench test repair, it would make sense to replace the capacitors and see if that resolves the problems - if you feel comfortable doing the job. Or - you can have any local electronics repair shop replace them. After removing the old ones, clean that area of the circuit board well with acetone or 99% isopropyl alcohol - and again after installing the new ones.

I get to say it at least once. Told you so...
The Caps are the most fragile thing in the ecu. Mitsu went cheap here. Unless the circuit board damage is worse than it looks, I think I'd just have the caps replaced and the board cleaned up well, then test function installed. Good luck with it. I think the mech can quit looking for the relay. I don't say it can't fail, but I don't remember many that did.
Not responsible for advice not taken...

I get to say it at least once. Told you so... fasteddy, you can say that as MANY times as you want! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Truly and greatly appreciate you and all of your help, information, and assistance with this problem. I'll post results and any other issues I find. I'm hoping to find a reputable electronics repair man close by. I live in a small town in the Rockies so I just may go with a professional rebuilder in the States. Will let you know. Ken

Why waist your time when you can have it done for around $160. I sent my ECU off on Tuesday and had it back by Friday. Reread my post for information where to send it, or least have a talk with them. If you want to do it here is some information http://www.stealth316.com/1-repair.htm#S15

Yep, your totally right Michael, I will ship the ECU out tomorrow. I talked to a guy at ECM to Go, sounded very knowledgable and they import clipped JDM's, so they were familiar with the parts# differences. I'm going to ship ithe ECU to them. Will let everyone know the out come. Fingers crossed it's repairable!! Ken

I'm hoping something easy to fix, but looks like you may be on to the problem. Let us know!

Fixed my problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I sent my ecu to AVPRO and got it back in two days. I had no spark and no injector power. Started right up with rebuilt ecu. Cost $150 + ship. Very happy!!! Now to fix my wipers. uggh...

Got the ECU back from ECU to Go day before yesterday. They fixed the ECU same day, but shipping was just a total pain from Canada. The car is running SMOOTH as silk!! Rea~lly appreciate everyones support! ECM to GO was great too! Ken
