Need a Spot
my 99 tj's (no a/c) blower motor is not working and i am wondering if anyone could give me some possible culprits and easy ways to home diagnose problem part.

it was working good up until a few months ago when the 3rd speed setting would not blow because the other speeds were fine.i did not get too worked up until it started cutting out for hours/days at a time when on the highest fan setting for just over a few minutes. then a few weeks ago i got in and the blower did not work at all and has not worked since. nothing but the fuses behind the glove box have been checked since then.

thanks

Body Damage is Cool
Sounds like the blower motor resistor has crapped out. Sometimes, one section of the resistor will open up, causing one of the speeds to quit working. Eventually, the thing developes opens elsewhere, and all blower speeds stop working. I'd replace it first, if you're sure the fuse is good. In the future, if one of the speeds quits working, don't wait, but change out the resistor right away.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just replaced the fan speed switch on my 99. Did exactly the same thing. Local Jeep dealer let me look at the wiring diagram and high speed on mine bypasses the resistor pack. Since my high was dead too, I checked the switch and it was complete shot.

Yep, I agree... had about the same thing happen on my 2001 Pontiac. Blower didn't do anything up until number 3 on the dial, and 3,4, and 5 were all the same speed. Replaced resister, and all is well. If I remember, it was about a $15 part.

Someone else can chime in here and correct this if it's wrong. Resistors used to be in the ductwork but not sure which year they went to a resistor pack mounted on the rear of the control panel where the fan speed switch is installed. This is all according to the Jeep parts guy.

My knowledge level is about here. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />
