Brake & battery light
I'm posting this for a buddy. He has already replaced the Alternator and voltage regulator. Dash lights still stay on. He also replaced the Master cyl. cap that has the wires on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 82 Toyota with a 22r engine. The other day, both the brake light and the battery light both came on at the same time. I've read that this is a sign that the alternator is starting to go bad and or the skinny wire coming off the positive battery(goes to alternator) post could be corroded needing cleaning or the whole wire it self could be bad causing both battery and brake lights to come on.
Has anyone had this experience with their toy or heard of this happening?

Also does anyone know where the "alt fuse" is at. Or the "alt wire junction box" is at. Or are these things not on a 82 toy. I read these things should be checked also.

Thought I'd throw this out there at the same time that I'm researching it and pawing around the engine of my new to me toy.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I think there's a relay in the fuse box that controls the light too. May check that. Charge light relay or something.

I'll have him look at the three relays that I know of. Kick panel and two above the steering column.

Mike, I'm not sure where that charge light relay is at; was helping someone in the back room on that for his 81.

On the B+ line; it goes across from the main fuse box via the core support wire bundle. There's a little black plastic box on the driver's fender; it's a terminal lug; from there it goes to the B+ on the alternator harness. This is set up this way to allow you to remove the alternator harness without tearing the rest of it down.

Also inspect the wire harness at the plug; these older rigs start experiencing insulation failure; don't want to be smoke checkin' anything! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

The charge light relay is on the passenger side tucked up under the dash. Gray box a little smaller than a half dollar. I am still looking for a replacement so in the interim I pulled the relay and the brake bulb from the dash. So far so good.

Check the ground cable from the alternator to the power steering bracket. Along with every other connection you can find of course...
