Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well, I got it home and it now sits proudly behind my house in the weeds. This is at the request of the wife (she has no appreciation for fine old vehicles). Upon further research, it is actually a 1977. The former owner also gave me a bunch of misc. stuff he had with the jeep like a brand new chiltons manual, extra rims, new thermostat and other stuff. Of course now I have the questions.

The 304 has headers. Were these a factory item or is it probable that they are aftermarket.

Also, in the back where the rear seat should go, there is a box. It is low enough and has mounting holes where a seat would mount on top (no back seat included). The box looks professionaly built and I was wondering if this also was a factory compartment or if it was aftermarket.

The jeep has brand new bestop highback seats. The paperwork was in the jeep and although it says they are for a cj5, they seem to sit awful high and close to the steering wheel. I was wondering if this is normal. Honestly I think I would like to find some lower seats that sit back a little. The bestops hit the riser directly behind them and will not slide back anymore.

CJ 5's came with manifolds.. Any headers are aftermarket.

I do not remember ANY container being stock in a CJ 5. I'd bet on that thing being aftermarket.

CJ 5's are shorter than CJ 7's The extra length is between the drivers seat and the steering wheel! (anyway it has always seemed thataway to me.)
All CJ 5's have the seat too close to the wheel to suit me.

Welcome to the Jeep side, bout time we got some 'Yota converts instead of the other way! The members here are pretty good on advice. Jim, Fred, Bob and a bunch of others are really knowledgable and can be pretty entertaining in the cantankerous expression of their views. I have never failed to get some kind of response to questions on my neverending (3 years so far) project. Now that your CJ is in the weeds behind the house, it will forever be whispering "Come on, I know your in there, come out and spend some time and lots of money on me!!!" I swear owning a Jeep should qualify you for some kind of Gov't assistance. Its somewhere between mental instability and total insanity!!!! Gotta love em!

Must not be a Mitsu you're trying to stick Jeep parts on

HA! It would probly work better to put Mitsu parts on the Jeep. Considering the amount of stuff AMC "borrowed" from every other cotton pickin, crepe eatin, rice burnin manufacturer on the planet!!!! KEEP FRANK ALIVE!!!!! Oh wait, he's dead.......the music lives on!!!
