Getting the Wheeling Fever
First and foremost I searched for lash adjuster replacement. I didnÆt find much. I have some pretty annoying tapping that gets louder as the engine warms up. When I am at a higher rpm it is not as noticeable. But when I am going slowly off road it bugs the heck out of me. Are they difficult to replace and does anyone think this would help the tap tap tap I hear?

if you are going to take them off the heads you can clean them your self I put mine in diesel fuel I read that some where on here. after a few miles they tend to get that way. (dirty and stuck) If you are in the market for some new heads with new adjusters I have some be glad to hook you up <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Sometimes they get varnished up over time. See if you can find some BG MOA oil additive at any local New Car Dealership. The service writers can tell you. It's usually used to augment services and won't be on display. Change your oil and add it in and leave it in. It's about the best cleaner/oil conditioner around and is the best shot at cleaning the valve followers the easy way. This stuff and their fuel injector cleaner is about the best available on the market. I'm sure you can also get it online. There is some on Ebay.

Or it's a slapping piston, and not the HLA's.

Replacement should be pretty easy, but it's as much work as a timing belt replacement (which you should do), and take care in sealing back up, or you'll get an oil leak at the upper/lower cam bearing bosses at the front&back of the engine.

I've used transmission fluid in the oil to free up stuck lifters. On a 5 quart system, substitute one quart of dexron into the oil. Change oil and filter in about 1500 miles. Trans fluid is highly detergent and great at cleaning.

x2 for Rislone. Used it before, worked well.

Same idea as above? Substitute 1 quart rislone for 1 quart motor oil and change oil+filter in 1500 miles?

You don't have to change the oil at 1500 miles. You can leave the Rislone in there.
