As most of us are aware, deer whistles commonly available are too big to fit on a vehicle unless on a bumper, where they are prone to being knocked off. And most of the cars today do not have front ends that will properly mount these things due to small grills, sloped bumpers etc. And they look like crap. There is a company that makes a unit that is 3/4"x3/4"x1". They fit in nearly any grill space and sit back out of the way. Have one on my wife's Elantra and on my T as well. They do work. Here in deer central, upstate NY, road kill is pretty high. Heck, my wife has collected 5 in the last 9 years. Was so bad we named the Corolla she had "Ithica". $11,400 in body damage from 3 of them! Last one totaled the 2003 Corolla. I have had at least a dozen near misses as has my wife. None since the installation of whistles. I can see them stop, turn their heads to look at my car or truck. Never did before putting them on the vehicle. Try deerwhistle.com. $5.95 shipped.
Not an agent of the company. Just passing along some info. Bill.

Sounds good to me. At that price its worth a try. I'm from northern Michigan and have to drive back and forth downstate and have had quite a few near misses. I was given a set of those big ones you refer to but also thought they just looked so out of place and I could also hear the whistling while I was driving so those didn't last long.

I thought I was the only one who had the hi freq capability to hear them. You can barely hear the mini as it in the middle of the grill a buried a bit. Deer sure react to it. The only thing is that it tends to freeze them in their tracks. If they are in the middle of the road, .........

I've never been a believer in deer whistles. However, your experience makes me re-examine my thinking. IAC, they look like a nice stocking stuffer... and if they work... all the better!
I just ordered 20 of them.

We use 'em for the moose up here. Seem to work okay.
Dang deer freeze and wait until the last second. Moose will simply double back.
Friend of mine drove Outside to see her new grandson; installed a couple of them on her rig. During one of her stops, she said she watched a black bear that was foraging along the road lift his head, look around, then bolted off in the brush, so I reckon the critters hear them.

are you ready for a One in a billion story???? a friend of mine, was going for a early bike ride (630 am) in sunny Arizona had his less than 3 month old new dual sport bike out and whammmmmm a loud crash and then the whole bike just slid out from under him...... as he was going down he remembers seeing a eyeball looking at him about 2 feet off the ground. as he was going around 50 mph a little doe ran into him.... he never saw it coming.
he slid about 75' killed the deer instantly bike is destroyed and he has a broke ankle and thumb, this is a guy with about 40 years ridding and about 70 bikes with no misshape. he has giving up bikes now and feels that was a get out of jail free card. and this story goes that he has had those whistles on every vehicle he has owned (bikes included) since they have made them. and the pair for this bike were laying on the kitchen table. he hadn't put them on yet.....he is one lucky guy Rich

I believe that one. The last one my wife got ran into the passenger front fender, slid down the side of the Corolla, tore up both doors, fender, hood and quarter panel as well as scratched both door windows and creased the roof line above the front door. $7400 that time. Put the whistles on after that and no hits since - about 2 years now. Some close ones but no hits. Hmmm.

I use them. Had the same experience as Marge with the deer freezing. The only damage I have had is one that stopped, was confused and ran right into me as I was stopped. Ironically, that came under comprehensive damage since he ran into me instead of collision. Less deductible

Within a six year time frame my wife and I have each hit one deer with our mini van. My daughter had her RAV4 less than a week and she hit one. Luckily no sheet metal damage on that one. Fixed it my self, didn't want to try to explain that one to the insurance company. Needless to say, I have four whistles ordered.
