After this trip. It's been over heating like crazy. During tghe trip it boiled over a few times on the trail and then it got really hot driving home too. Took it real easy doing it also. So you gear heads out there.. Where should I start..

This thread is for a 2.6, but a lot of it should still basically apply.

What kind of coolant are you using? This is important.

Not sure. It was replaced at the shop when they put in the new radiator. It's green. . Right now it's deluted with some water now with me refilling it. It was having heating issues before the accident. The gauge would go barely above center when it boils over. It sits at center when running. I remember though it used to sit at 1/4 on the gauge all the time before. Not sure when things changed or what. I'll check the parts tomorrow.

OK. Green is good.

The orange stuff transfers heat better, but plugs stuff up if you allow it to overheat or run low. Probably not what's happening here. I'll go back to my corner.

If it does it only at HWY speeds or 4x4'ing only, then your lift or those HUGE tires are probably putting a massive load on that auto-tranny.... transfering the heat to the rad..

If not, look at the water pump, etc... but I had to go to a 4row custom rad setup with the turbo with 33's just to "beat the heat" here in SoCal... after that..

Never looked back

If that's the case, maybe you should consider some of these. I put a set on my '88 and even on the 100+ days my temp guage generally reads like the engine just barely got warmed up on a cool day. The needle gets only about 1-2 needle-widths into the big, wide "normal" range. I'm also running a 180-degree t-stat so that it tends to run cooler. Gives me more time to react to an overheat if I have one. If it ever pokes up even midway through the "normal" range then I'd be watching it like a hawk. I haven't yet had the opportunity to see how they affect the engine in the dead of winter, but if they don't allow the engine to warm up adequately all I have to do is just block them off under the hood. Easy-peasey. A four-row rad might not be a bad idea either.

Did you remove your air shroud when you did the body lift?

I'm guessing you're asking DC, but yeah, I removed the lower-half when I did my body lift. Hasn't been on in over two years and I've not seen any adverse effects, although, I know that can be an issue for some rigs.
