Need a Spot
Has anyone had a problem with the smell of fuel around the Kia Sportage I cannot find any leaks in the system but you can smell gas when the truck is standing it seems to go away when you drive a short time
Thanks Popy1

OK...intake manifold side of the engine. In front of the fuel rail. A round unit called the fuel pressure regulator. There are rubber hoses in that area with clamps. They often leak slightly causing a fuel smell. Either the clamps need to be tightened or the rubber has cracked.

If you top off your fuel tank you can have a problem with filling your charcoal canaster, located on the right side of the engine bay in front of the battery, with raw fuel and you will have a strong fuel smell.

there is also a recall for the top fitting on the fuel pump at the top of the gas tank that is known to leak and crack. that is what happened to mine. i found out about the recall after replacing the fuel pump. look at the top of the tank you should see it if it is there. leave the truck at idle and it will spray out.

this sounds like a good peice of advice to remember <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> so can i look at this area by folding rear seeat forward and opening some door i keep hearing about. i have never folded the rear seat up.just to see what i may(most likely)be in for one day.

yeah the rear seat just flips forward and there is a little trap door under there to get at the fuel pump. a few screws and it is off.

if you just look in the rear fender well also, where the fuel filler hose goes to the tank you will see the top of the fuel pump also. they mad the pump with an extremely cheap plastic elbow fitting at the top.
