Hey everyone,
Over the course of a couple of months my trooper has been unable to start after about a 30 mile trip. After sitting about 20 min it starts right up..Starter solenoid right? well maybe..There is more, on certain occasions as I go to start it I have NO POWER to anything. Battery is ok and charged. Out of frustration I tapped on the fuesable link housing (in front by the battery) and this restored power..dome light, key buzzer etc. the couple of time I did this it started right up other times it did not <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Last night I went around the block to the store and it did it again, now this was after not being driven all day granted it was 106 yesterday here but I don't think this short trip would cause the same heat as a 30 mile trip. So I do the tap thing wait several min and nothing NO power at all. Finally I get power back and when I turn the key its as though the battery is very low.
I just checked it again and the battery reading is a 12.60 when I turn the key its as though the battery is very low. I have a dome light that is at normal brightness but NO head lights turn signals and no flashers. when I take the key out and put the flashers on I get a buzzing from some relay under the dash. I tried tapping on the starter solenoid nothing. A neighbor mentioned that if the starter solenoid is bad since the main battery cable goes to it power may not get to where else it needs to go but that doesn't sound right. I know these electrical things are just a matter of eliminating each component in the chain but where the heck should I start? Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Also I jumped the main fuseable link in the housing by the battery and this did not change anything. I tried this because several years ago I changed it. I think I had similar problems as these before I changed it but cannot remember. I guess its worth adding that lastnight when I caught in in gear to start it it ran fine lights turn signals ect.
Thanks in advance
Jeff
