This is my first post. I just bought a 96 trooper for my sons first rig. I was driving it up the freeway and I thought that the transmission went. However after i pulled over to the side of the freeway. I think that it the flex plate center breaking out or the bolts failed. The reasson that I have made this assumption is, after I turned the engine off. I tried to restart it. The starter was spinning and sounded like it was in contact with the ring gear, but the engine was not turning. I surfed the internet and found one post that related to the flexplate breaking. I took the rig back to the dealer that I bought it.( I bought it AS IS) I think that may help me a little on the repair. I just want to know. if there are some improper parts that have been installed. HELP and THANKs
Jim

IT IS NOT COMMON FOR THE TROOPERS TO BREAK A FLYWHEEL /FLEX PLATE, WHAT IS COMMON IS THAT SOME TIME IN THE RECENT PAST SOME ONE HAS HAD THE TRANS OUT AND DID NOT REINSTALL THE TWO LOCATING DOWEL PINS IN THE BLOCK, AND IT WILL BREAK THE FLEX WHEEL, AND OR THE FRT PUMP IN THE TRANS , JUST ABOUT GAURENTEE THE DOWEL PINS ARE MISSING JERRY

Thanks, I will make sure that the dowel pins are in or replaced. I like the rig. Its actually my kids. I happen to be a ford guy for the most part. I have a 73 bronco. So I like this site. I see that It has a older bronco section. I have a 95 and 99 crew cab powerstroke 4x4. I Have always liked Isuzu products. I just dont know very much about them especially this 96 trooper. The engine seems fine and the transmission shifted fine untill all at once it was no go. Thats why I think that it is the flex plate. No lights blinking or nothing. The check engine light is on sometimes. Any ideas? Jim

Does anybody know how many hours of shop time would be involved in the changing out the flexplate. Also If I get the parts where would be the best to buy. Isuzu dealer, NAPA ect?
Thanks Jim

YOU ARE LOOKING AT ABOUT 6 HRS TO DO THE SWAP, AND NOW WOULD BE VERY GOOD TIME TO DO THE REAR MAIN SEAL WHILE THE FLYWHEEL IS OFF,I AVE SOME OF THOSE FLYWHEELS USED THAT ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE JERRY

Mark, Thanks for the reply. I don't know any of you guys but,Jerry has been great. I think that we will have a flexplate transaction real soon ( I hope that dosn't sound dirty) haahahah. Anyway my son will more than likely be on this forum real soon. It is his rig. He is pumped up about his new Trooper however a little disappointed about it breaking down. I have got to tell you I am a Ford guy, but 4 wheeling is 4 wheeling, and I do like the Trooper. It will be fun fixing it up with everybodys help om this forum. Thanks Jim and Nick (son)
