Newbie here!! I have 1994 4X4 extra cab V6 3.0L 5 speed. It has 176,000 miles on it. I am running Mud King 31" tires on it and my Axel code says my factory gears are 4.556. Code C/TR 196/FN11 A/TM G254/ R150F VIN: JT4VN <<First 5.
This is a weekend driver, on road and at times off road. (80/20). Actually itÆs an emergency response vehicle for volunteer work I do for the county I live in. At times itÆs hard to say what type of off road situations I might be in. We have snow here in Indiana and plenty of muddy farm fields. I have decided to install an Aussie locker in the rear. I have been to gerainstalls.com and plan on ZUK doing the work for me when the heat in AZ subsides. I have done a lot of searches here and also many other yota sites.
My questions to you all are as follows:
I have never removed a third before, but I think it should be pretty straight forward with info I have found here.
Also while I have the Third removed, is there any other mods or maintenance things I should consider while I have the rear tore out? I plan on new axel bearings while the axels are out.
Bleeding the brakes will be new for me as well once I get it all put back together. This has me nervous, any Tips or tricks on this will be appreciated.
I had thought of doing a rear disc brake kit if itÆs not too hard or expensive. Have not found to many conversion kits out here? If anyone has done this conversion before let me know if itÆs worth the effort and $$.
I have made contact with Aussie and they said the V6 lockers should be available by the end of August, so I will be confirming this real soon.
I will need to install a new power steering pump at some point in the future; I have slowed the leak down with Lucas power steering poop. So anything I should know on this work would be great!! I am just trying to plan ahead for my project while my truck is out of service.
Any and all opinions and suggestions will be appreciated. I plan on photographing my project to share with other newbieÆs. So stay tuned! Thanks Happy wheeling!! JJ Indiana USA

I would replace bearings, pinion seal axle seals at end of housing, if money is no issue. If it is an issue just do seals unless the bearings are bad.the bearings are about 60 bucks I think.I thoght about the rear disk kit but I dont think its worth the trouble, unless you have giant tires or tow overwieght loads.I dont seem to have too much trouble breaking How does the park brake work on the rear disk set up? wanted to add my expieriance with the aussie is in a 4cyl dif.Might be diferent on yours. I highly recommend the one man break bleeder and the fsm on this site to help with the breaks. Why send it to Az to put the locker in? Im sure Zuk would do a good job but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through. no trouble to get the third out most the time .I took one out today that had been in since 86 and it took some coaxing with BFH and pry bar. I used the lucas on my power steering pump and it has fixed it ,it took a while but it worked.

Thanks for the reply and info!!
I have no clue as how the E-brake would work on a rear Disc Brake set up?
I just got a E-mail back from [sales@aussielocker.com]and here is what it said: The V6 model is in production and we are expecting a shipment to leave Australia in about 4 weeks.
So my project will be delayed a while. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
You Said: You highly recommend the one man break bleeder and the fsm on this site to help with the breaks. (Whats the fsm?)
You asked why have ZUK do the work? Because he seams to know a hell alot more about 3rds than I do, and the shippng and labor will is not that much and I will know it was done right with no worries. Before I tryed a rear-end re-build I would need some coaching, and I don't have all the tools needed.
I may have to add some more Lucas to the power steering pump..I have a small spot on the G-floor again.
thanks again for your input, JJ

tried to reply and screen went blank ,hope it donyt post twice the fsm is the factory service manual posted on the 2nd or 3rd thread on this page.one man break bleeder is a gadget that makes bleeding breaks much easier search the harbor frieght tools site for it,or auto zone.4-6 weeks is normal wait on the aussie so you got time to read and get your courage up.no speacial tools needed. If you can conquer rear brakes you can do it ,but zuk would be a good choice if you dont mind the wait of shipping things around, not to mention I would think a guy like zuk would be slammed with work, might take a while to get to it.The last thing I wanted to do after waiting 6 weeks to get the locker was pack it up and mail it off.I just like to work on my own truck when I can. either way you will be pleased when you get it in.Your at a good place for coaching on toyota trucks. Dont mean to offend Zuk,he is a valuable asset to this site, but putting in an aussie is not really rebuilding the third its a little less complicated if I understand it right,Ive never set up gears so Im not sure, but I have put in a couple aussies and Im a shade tree mech at best.Youve got a little time to study
