Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 1991 3.0 auto montero has 202000 miles and I'm starting to think rebuild or replace the engine. It is still running good but since I drive it 220 miles one way to work every other week plus visit other customers in between I need to feel the warm fuzzy feel of a younger engine. What engines will actually fit my tranny?, What years?, Are they better etc?. I am a good mechanic but haven't followed Mitsubishi/ Dodge and don't know whats available.
Thanks
G
P.S. I tried the searce engine but could not figure out what to search for, Hi Fasteddy glad your still around.

I'd say find another engine to rebuild and have it in standby. My 90 3.0 has well over 200k and runs great. I'm not afraid to take it anywhere. Are there any indications that it may need freshening up?

I have one lifter that taps at low rpms, but it sounds great and still runs 75 to 80 mpph loaded on the freeway regularly. Like you said I'm trying to decide which engine to get, build, and install. But this is not an emergency.
I may not have asked the right question... I,ll try again. What vehicles, year models etc.came with mitsu 3.0s or similiar? I'm not afraid to make modifications either but don't want to get to exotic with them.
Thanks
G

Need a Spot
I went 230K until my head gasket blew, but that was because my fan clutch was bad and i didnt know it. Before that, it was running good and not using oil. Keep an eye on the temps and you'll be fine for a long long time. Always look out for a used engine at a good price.
