Dont ya just LOVE the term CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. It sounds like the heat resistant tiles on the bottom of the Space Shuttle are damaged. When in fact a little ole' Montero has just seen better days. Thanks again Fasteddy.

My ticking was a loose rod bearing which finally spun on the way to the garage to get it fixed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Ok fellas I have put 20W-50 and Stone Temple Pilots oil treatment in. She runs much smoother as a whole but that tapping sound is still there. I am guessing that it is on the top of the connecting rod as was suggested earlier. I will start searching for enginge rebuilding steps soon. Thanks for all the help.

Have you tried the stabbing to 3,000 RPM's trick? Do it several times in rather rapid succession. It'll usually clear it up, if it's a stuck lifter.
Then again, if it's a rod, it may slang it on out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
