the axle is leaking oil on my 94 rodeo. I was wondering what I need to get to fix that. its leaking out where the the drive shaft hooks up to the axle. I will take a picture and upload it here if that would help but seeing that Im at school right now I cant really go and get that picture. but its leaking alot and I want to get that fixed. thanks to any help that can be provided.

Pinion seal went bad. Need a pinion seal minimum. To do it right, you'll also need a crush sleeve. But I've gone cheap before and reused the old one with success.

yea, its a little more than unbolt, replace seal, rebolt. the crush sleeve is a one time use item... and when reinstalling, you'll need to make sure to get the proper preload on the pinion or you could trash your rear end. if you don't understand what I just said, you may want to leave it to a shop.

I may be 18 and young compared to alot of people here but suprisingly enough I do know what that means. Xtreme 4x4 is really the only show I watch or make time to watch now and they have alot of good stuff to teach and show on there.

Rob was not insulting you. But, if your entirety of knowledge on differentials was gleaned from Extreme4x4, this is a job that you really should leave to a shop. If you try it and something is not right, you will have spent the cost of the seal, maybe a crush sleeve, plus the cost of repairing/replacing the rear axle.
Good Luck, Michael

yea man, I wasn't coming at you. This is the internet, I don't know your age or your skill level. My only point for those reading who may have no idea is there is more to this than your "average" seal replacement, so tread lightly. If you know whats up, by all means attack it, you certainly don't need my go ahead... you asked the question to begin with. but, no harm no foul.

I wasnt at all. if I thought I knew what I was doing I wouldnt of asked. hell, cuz I like to go out wheeling so much I am taking classes in college on automotive tech to get a better knowlegde of what to do.
