Getting the Wheeling Fever
okay, so my transfer case is leaking INTO my transmission still.
I replaced the seal at the back of the tranny and the front of the transfer case. Somehow the ATF is still getting into the tranny (AX15)and i am stumped as to how this is happening and what to do???
anyone?? please??
93 YJ 5spd, 4.0, teraflex SSE
thanks

Did you seperate the tranny from the transfercase and replace the seal THERE? That is the seal that needs attention.

Them is the seals in question.. Done correctly they should not leak.
Have you checked for overfill and underfill? Perhaps you are seeing residue of the red dye..

the transfer case is empty, the tranny is OVER full!!
a guy from another forum had asked if i had changed my transfercase, which i haven't but it made me think.
when i rebuilt my tranny last year, i had a problem getting the bearing off the mainshaft so i ended up putting a mainshaft from an 87 YJ in there....
could this be the culprit????
thanks
jay

How long since the seals were replaced? Did you check weekly to see if the seals were leaking at that time? Could there be a possibility the seals were instelled BACKWARDS? (inside out)

seals definitely installed correct, about a month ago. Someone had suggested there is a seal/plug on the input shaft of the t-case that could be letting ATF into my trans??

Darlin that is the seal in question here! Of course it is the INPUT shaft seal! How else would one expect fluid to change cases?

Need a Spot
Did you ever figure out the problem with the trans fluid getting into the casing? I may possibly be having the same problem except my fluid is dripping out of a small hole on the rear of the trans housing where the transfer case bolts to the tranny. Thanks

I still haven't had a chance to pull the t-case,
But i'm fairly confident that it is this seal,
as i have replaced all of the others so far.
It does make sense...
thanks
