Possibly a pickle fork if the hammer won't pop the tie rod end free from the steering arm Most of the time pickle forks will ruin the boot on a TRE. Get their TRE remover works much better. Why do you have to remove the TRE's to do an alignment anyway? Just loosen the clamps and turn the tie rod.

I take the castle nut off the outer, and give it a whap with the hammer to pop it up/outward; then the inner TRE usually pops right out next.
To the original poster, if replacing the TRE's, count the number of threads on both sides of the link before you tear it down; it'll get you pretty close to where you start with them.
Couple shots of PB Blaster or Aerokroil doesn't hurt either.

Most of the time pickle forks will ruin the boot on a TRE. He says he's going to replace the tie rod ends, do it doesn't matter. Oh...and another tool you'll need to spin off the tie rods is a large adjustable wrench or pliers. LARGE, as big as you can afford. Count the number of turns it takes to remove it, and install the new one the same number to get you close to where you were before.

Thanks all. What do I need to turn the sleeves without messing them all up? When I replaced mine, I just threaded the tie rods by hand one at a time before I put it the castle nuts on the tie rods. I don't think it matters that the sleeve gets chewed up, mine look like a lion was gnawing on them from when it's been at the alignment shop. Try some vise grips.
