Bought the truck and it occasionally would make a grinding sound when I took sharp right turns...into a driveway for instance. So I replaced bearings and races and repacked with fresh grease, new rotors, pads, and calipers. After about a month of driving with no noise I heard it again yesterday. Still only on right hand turns. There are no rub marks of any kind and I am baffled...anyone else had this? Ideas on what else I could check?
Thanks!

If it is IFS (since you did not post what you have, and we are not mind readers) smear some grease on the steering stops. Do all four.

excellent point...not mindreaders. I have a 93 xtra cab with IFS. The noise does not occur when cranked all the way...it is not the steering stops. It is only occasionally and seems to be when making a turn off the street into driveways or parking lots at maybe around 10mph or so but not below...

Check your ball joints. If the boot is torn and or the joint is dry it can make strange noises.
good luck

x2 on spindle bushings. My step-son's 91 developed a similar sound, although in his case, more pronounced at low speed when cold. Turned out to be worn (and dry!) spindle bushings. The bushings apparently dried out over time, and then wore out to the point where the excess clearance allowed the rubber in the seal on the back side of the spindle to actually chatter against the sealing surface. Made a very loud grinding-like noise from inside or outside the truck.
As I recall, there isn't an effective way to grease these short of disassembly of the spindles. We replaced the bushings and seals, greased them up good, and solved the problem for at least another 80K miles -- was still okay when we sold the truck.

Thanks guys for your help...this looks like it could be the problem. Mine only makes the sound when turning and is definitely more of a grinding sound...
I will give this a shot!
Thanks!

I guess the next question is do you have manual hubs or add? if manual hubs are unlocked the cv shft should not turn so it is not likely spindle bearings/bushings.
I replaced my bushings with bearings with the truck sitting on the ground in the driveway (so far only did one side, I'll get to the other side if it starts making noise)
