Roll Me Over
I'm in the market for a plasma cutter.

I'm looking at:

Miller Spectrum 375 $1025 Says it will sever 5/8" cuts 1/2"

Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38 $895 Says it will sever 5/8" cuts 1/2"

Northern tool model 375 $649 Says it will cut 3/8"

I think the Miller would be nice because you will always know you can buy the consumables, and it seems to have plenty of power. But it also seems like you are paying quite a bit extra for the blue paint.

The Thermal Dynamics unit is an upgraded unit from the one I'm borrowing right now. I'd be perfectly happy with it. Unsure of the ease of buying the consumables.

The Northern Tool one is questionable as I've not found any reviews on it. It says it has 40 amp output, which is more than either of the other two. I'd like to see a review or two on it before I drop that kind of cash on one. I know consumables will be easy to buy as there are Northern tool places everywhere.

Anyone with opinions? Anyone have the Northern Tool one?

Joe

I use a Thermal Dynamics cutter, its a good unit, and I have no complaints, but I am cutting mainly 1/4 and 3/16, so not really stressing it.

always working

I'm using a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster at work.. I know it's the one with the 40amp max supply, but not sure which model.. I believe it is the Model 51... Absolutely love it..

We bought it at a welding supply house.. I don't think you'd have any problems finding consumables on this unit.

Have used it for several years on some pretty big projects and the torch head shows no signs of wear.. I've cut 1/2" thick steel with this unit.
