Hi!!!Please HELP!!!

I have a 2001 Isuzu Vehicross 2.6L

Here's my prpblem...When I turn the steering wheel the axles seem to be "winding up" then popping loose. The "Torgue on demand" guage on the dashboard shows no power going to the front wheels and the rearl wheels seem totally "Locked up". Reminds me of the old "Detroit Locker"
differencials of the old days. Also the check lite is blinking directly below the TOD guage.

Any ideas as to what is happening??

Roll Me Over
I am really confused. I wasn't aware that there were any 2.6 VXs. I thought that they were all 3.5/3.2.

First welcome to the board. Second does it seem to

"winding up" then popping loose
only when the TOD is engaged.

Thanks for the welcome Diesel Bob

Well...this system does not give you a choice.. its full time 4 wheel drive. No switches, no hubs, just a gauge on the dash that tells you which wheels are being driven by the engine. Its a kool little gauge that looks like 4 little tires and has a proportional diode light that lites up each little tire to tell you what percentage of engine torque is being delivered to each wheel at any given moment. It does have a hi/lo transfer case. The TOD stands for Torque On Demand.....

I don't know if you've ever driven off road and then pulled onto a paved highway and forgotten to disengauge the locking hubs, and then while turning the wheels real tight to the left or right creates a "binding feeling" because the inside wheel to the direction of the turn is traveling at a SLOWER rate than the "outside" wheel. This is exactly the feeling that I am getting...It acts "kinda" normal going in a straight line down the street, but if I turn especially very sharply she'll start binding, then breaking loose, then binding again. Also there is a red "check" lite that is under this TOD gauge that is "flashing" Hummmmmm??? trying to tell me something I think!! But what??

I thought I'd get more feedback on this issue as this is basically the same drivetrain that is on the other Isuzu 4X4's Rodeo with the 3.5L engine...Maybe this is a seldom occuring problem...Still trying to figure it out???

Goodness, get it to a dealer and get it scanned. It will be much easier than trying to guess in a system that is full of sensors and whatnot.

I suspect it is not sensing something and therefor not transferring power between f/r as it should. As to what that problem is, who knows. But I bet that little red light knows.

Good Luck,
Michael

Thanks for the post..it gives me an idea

Sensors and what not...Im gonna go out and disconnect a lead to the battery and reset the computer and see if that solves the problem...

If that fails I'll take your advice and head for the dealer

That is a good place to start. I would also take a peek at the wheel sensors and any sensors attached to the axles and transfer case.

Good Luck,
Michael
