hey guys i got a 1986 toyota 4runner, i just rebuild the motor and put it in the other day, and got it finailly started last night,but when i rev and hold it there at 1700rpm it will go from 1700 to 1000 none stop like its loosing spark or cutting ou the fuel or somthing. i need help. thanks zack

Make sure your TPS is set up properly to start; root of all evil. Make sure your air tube isn't cracked/leaking.

The fuel injector harnesses on the older Toys are butt-spliced; they tend to corrode/fail. This can cause the injectors to misfire. We recommend folks solder them while doing a teardown.

also check your idle, mine was too high and the motor was surging.
i lowered it a bit and it purred like a kitten

yeah i got the tps set so it idles at 800-850, and there is no cranks the intake tube,and the trucks runs better with the fuel return line crimped, but as soon as i crimp the fuel return line it pures like a kittin but it still dose the up and down thing wioth the rpm at 1700 to 1000.

ok guys i figured it out i was the tps it wasint lined up with throttle pins right.it work awsome today and the it stared to do it again after drining it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> , so i unpluge the tps and figured the truck would shut of and it ran awsome!but it shorts at points when i drive,like i wants to shut off, i need help her guys im really <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
