Body Damage is Cool
I've got that leaking that trucks of this body style get on the firewall that leaves the footwells damp. I've had the fender's and the header panel at the base of the windshield off before and all I remember is that there is a standing body seam where the inner wheel well meets firewall, but I don't remember if the full length of it is accessable. It seems like the leak starts pretty high (up close to the base of the windshield). Is the fixable? -- Matt

Not sure about yours, but that's not where mine was leaking from. Take out either kick panel, and look straight up (like above where the ECU is/would be). The seam there (it's at the bottom of the whole cabin air intake cowl is) is what started leaking on mine. I couldnt really get to it from above so I snaked my arm up there with some silicone on my finger and smeared it on the join. Dry so far *fingers crossed*

Yes, I think that seam may be enclosed from above inside the cowl. Hard to see how to fix that without taking the whole spot welded structure apart. In any case I've seen the spot your talking about. Anybody here in the rust belt has that problem if their truck or 4runner has seen a half dozen winters or so. -- Matt

Yes I had a leak at the windshield, it was repaired with RTV years ago, that effected the ECU and dripped on the floorboard.

And a recent leak, I drove through some street flooding, 6" of water going about 20mph. Water was forcefully spraying everywhere, entering the cab through the passenger fender firewall area and shorted out the Open Circuit Relay, the relay that runs the fuel pump. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Protect your vitals, fix those leaks, RTV works good.
