with 4.88s you would want a torquey engine. 5.29's might be better or a properly setup 5.71 gear.that would keep you up higher with those big tires. taller gears might let you use 4th ,5th gear. find a turbo tranny and you would be better off because of the lower gears.

see I also want to be able to use the truck for local wheeling holes too. The muds not ultra thick at our spots, but grabbing 4th or 5th gear may be a bit much. 5.71s are a little to brittle i think.

this may sound stupid but why spend so much to get relatively so little power and no economy just to stay with a 4cyl.Wouldnt a stock 7mgte or similar have more power than the hottest 22r ?

well main reason is because i got some of the parts already and also have a good block to work off of. I'm not too familar with the mgte, I do know that i dont see many for sale around here though. Also economy is the least of my concerns.

Realistically, I don't think you're going to get beyond about 145 flywheel hp to that thing without thinking about major work and having to deal with EFI issues.
If you can live within the bounds of +20hp - and I mean that power done right with a nice gain over the hp curve, you'll be fine.

If you need more than that, a stroker will take you to 160, a turbo to 200, and then it gets pretty ridiculous to about 300hp. All of these are probably more expensive options over the old fashioned engine swap..

plenty of 5mge mk2 engines still around (also in cressida) start out about 160 hp stock.it just seems like a lot of money in a 22r to get over 150hp trying to make it something it is not meant to be,but more power to you <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> if you can do it.
