This a tale of 2 Yotas.
I have an 87, 22R, 5spd, 2WD, decent body with near perfect frame and an 87, 22RTE, 5spd, 4WD, OK body with a frame that will need some plating. Both are regular cab short beds. I'm planing on swaping the turbo motor out for an RE or a 5 or 7mge for reliability.

I haven't planed out the front suspention yet but I kinda have this vision that involves stock TJ coils and some sort of control arms.

I've seen the SAS'd 2WDs around but never realy looked into it.
Any thoughts?

Dan

Yes, the frame has more arch in the front wheel wells, providing more clearance for the front axle, therefore giving you better steering clearance and you can run less lift.

Really better, the frame archs up higher on the 2-WD's then it does on the 4-WD's allowing for more up-travel.

Sounds good.
Would I have to use an IFS steering box or can I use the 2wd PS box on it?
Will the rear 4wd axle match up on the spring perches?

I guess the rest is measureing and planing.

Thanks for the replies!

Dan

the 2wd steering box is weaker, you should go with the 4x4 IFS box. also the steering shaft is a ball joint on 2wd, and U joint on 4wd. 4wd being stronger. also center bearing crossmember is differnt if u have 2 peice driveshaft. if u have any more questions let me kno. i just finished my 2wd transformation. oh ya. the rear axle lines up

I went the 2wd frame route because my 4x4 frame was rusted out. I used the steering box off the 4x4. What are you doing with the turbo parts? Perches do line up.

Yes, will give you the spring over setup, adding ~4" of lift or so to what you have now.

Thanks for all the info guys! I can't wait to get started.

Has anyone here made thier own coil spring front suspention?
I think a 4 link would be overkill so I'm thinking 2 heavy control arms or something like that.

I don't think coilovers will be within the budget so thats out.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks again, Dan

Remember that a 2 arm system will change caster and drive shaft angles as it cycles.

id just run leaves up front and link the rear or leaves all the way around. you could link it later when budget permits.
