Need a Spot
Bought a set of KC 130 watt 12 volt halogen lites, wired them up with a switch to a 30 amp relay. Worked fine and then quit, took 12 volt from battery to relay to lites through a 25 amp fuse and grounded to frame. Checked by laying bulb housing to - battery post and hot to white wire, nothing. Neither ohm out. Is it a problem with too much voltage off battery when chaging 14 VS 12 or not a good enough ground that took out both bulbs. Or could it be vibration, mounted on front push bar Thanks Gordie

Did you make sure the grounds are clean? That's what it sounds like to me...a bad ground. Is there dirt or anything like that where the lights are grounded?

I also just got a set of tail lights where the ground was actually a white wire and the black (should be the ground color) was the tail lamp wire... but then I don't see why, in that case they would have worked in the first place.

Pretty simple answer. If you used an ohmmeter on the removed lamps, and you read open, then the bulbs are bad.

All bulbs should run fine with eitehr 12 volts or 14 volts.

The ground actually goes to a spade terminal that is grounded through the bulbs housing. I tested them with an ohm meter and they are open. It just seems wierd that they both went out at the same time. They worked every time I tried them for about three weeks. I had them grounded at the same place the factory head lites were grounded. I'm just trying to figure out what took them out before I buy new ones and have the same problem. I thought halogen bulbs were suppose to be pretty durable. I will run a separate ground right to the battery. I used # 12 wire and had a 25 amp fuse. 130/12 = 10.8 amps each. 12 gauge wire is good for 20 amps. Just looking for idea's before I burn out a new set of bulbs. Thanks Gordie

I've never had good luck with halogen bulbs... They burn really hot and never have lasted as I expected..

My experience has been condensation in the wiring. Chose to redo the entire wiring and lite layout, because it kept getting corrosion inside the main wire which led to the lites. It blew fuse after fuse.

Did you touch the bulbs with your hands? Halogen bulbs will burn out quickly when they come in contact with the oils from your hands. Just a thought.

Bought them used and never had the bulbs out of the light housing. They worked for three weeks ever time I tried them. Going to run a ground right to the battery and give it anothere try.
