Tailgate crossover to other trucks? #841368 10/13/07 09:05 PM

Need a Spot
Walked out of the house one morning, looked at the T, hmm something not quite right...

Tailgate stolen. (!!!!!!) WTF??

Looks like a new assembly from Toyota is $300, at least one chop shop wants $200 or more. Does anyone know if Toyota happen to use the same tailgate on the pickup, Taco, or more likely the early Tundras? It would widen the junkyard search.

Looks like the '93s got a couple of different tailgates, even:

I looked and it seems that it's only for T100. But all the T100's seem to have the same tailgate.

Also it's not clear if the tailgate includes the lock, handle and other hardware.

Boneyard is the best bet I think.

I've seen it posted on one site where you can put a hose clamp on the right side of the tailgate (where it lifts out) to slow down someone from stealing yer gate. If you don't have an immediate need to remove yer gate at regular intervals, you can give this a try when you git yer new gate.

Where are you located? I've seen a few gates up fer sale in the CA and AZ areas. I've found a few cheap ones on www.car-part.com in the past. Just a thought...

Tucson... $65!

Did the tailgate to the T-100 come with a lock?

Someone stole the tailgate? Thats an odd one..a really odd one.

Scout out your truck and watch it for awhile, they maybe will be back.

I went to drive the truck this evening, hmm the battery is dead. That's odd, didn't leave the lights on. Dragged a couple of extension cords across the lawn, pulled out the battery charger, popped the hood, and ... #)%(*&_(!!!!!

Along with the battery, they took misc. tools and tiedowns and bungees in the cab, and the jack handle (but left the jack). And the radiator cap.

I'm practically speechless. Cursing just doesn't seem adequate. It's directly in front of a house on a nice street in a nice neighborhood with low crime.

A quick look at the junkyards says $300-$400, plus the cost of repainting. Toyota new looks like $300-$400.
Thanks for the Tucson tip, but shipping is around $100. (Actually, does anyone know what a tailgate weighs? I guessed 50lbs).

I didn't even know that tailgates could -- and should -- be locked. But anyone willing to break into the cab and pop the hood in such a neighborhood might just laugh at a small lock.

Sorry to hear they ripped you off.

Better check under the truck and see if they stole yer cat, too.

Why in the heck would they still yer radiator cap? I'm surprised they didn't steal yer lug nuts just fer fun, too.

THat sounds like a bunch of kids, I would park the truck in your garage from now on.

This is the exact reason I take my cb antenna off when I am not in the truck, have a lock box for my stuff and keep nothing visable at all if possible.

Alex,

Note the old one from those first 4 months supercedes to the one everyone else has. So they apparently look similar enough...

Tailgate theft is not uncommon. They are easy to damage (creating a demand) and easy to steal...

I would bet that it comes completely stripped for that (low) price.

Your best bet is a junkyard.
