Hi all.
I started my truck this morning and heard a strait pipe. I knew exactly what happened, somebody stole my cat. Lucky (yeah right) for me they un-bolted it so I don't have to replace more than the section between and the O2 sensor.

Man what a bummer!! Right in front of my house last night. I'm waiting for the police just to file a report and I'm looking for a replacement part

Is this covered under comprehensive insurance?

I still pay for comp and collision on my '96 but it may be near time to cancel with bluebook value dropping.

Platinum is over $1400 per Oz, look for more and more 'Cat Burglers.'

I canceled my comp. 6 months ago. My deductible was 1k anyway. I'm pricing the part through my "discount" dealer connection

Looks like the norm is to use a sawzall to cut the cat from the victim's truck/SUV in a few minutes. This can happen in quickly in common parking lots.

Does anyone know if they make any cats in stainless steel yet? Not sure if that would slow them down or even stop them...

1300.00 for the part from toyota. My connection can let me have it for 1050.00:8. The truck is now headed to the muffler shop for a universal cat for 395.00.

There's a factor I hadn't thought of when thinking about buying a T100, cat cost! What's the deal with the huge price? Must be a newer 3 way cat?? What year did that hi priced item start?

Yes, it is a three way cat. I hope the generic one works.

So, 513.00 later I have an after market cat and a new O2 sensor. Everything is welded now so next time they have to cut it off . The shop told me they are not interested in the after market cats just the factory ones.

I don't know what kind of shield/cover you can use because the cat gets hot. It would be bad to direct this heat back towards the chassis. I thought of something that might be adaptable, tho.

In Germany they have these weasels that enjoy a crawl around inside engine compartments. The rodent leaves his scent all over everything and eventually another one comes and tries to destroy trace of previous weasel, chewing up all manner of hoses and wires.

One of the solutions they have to counter this is to install electrified rods, grids and plates that mount to the undercarriage of the vehicle. Sort of like an electric fence. Some cars even come so-equipped from the car factory.

Here is an example of an add on kit.

And here is such a rodent.

Edit: Since I mentioned an electric fence, I thought about a cattle fence. Why not just coil barbed wire around the exhaust?
