If making it run worse, resulting in polluting more, other types of repairs resulting in an unsafe vehicle to be on the highways or even trails is the result...Well, if you think your learning curve is worth that...speak up.

Techs like, teachers, doctors, truckers, union workers, non union workers...everyone does a job that somewhere along the like you or me pay them for a hard days work.

If being poor gives you the "right" to tamper with federal pollution equipment and create a polluting rig because you can't afford proper repairs....take the bus, walk.

If you spend some good money on good repairs we all do better.

I don't think SD is trying to assume control, and I don't think anyone needs any slack. This is an information forum. When someone posts a question here (or on any forum), they are asking for opinions. Should the members of the forum only give him opinions that he wants to hear? SD gave his opinions to the gentleman, and they're as valid as anyone else's opinions. Because his opinions differ from yours doesn't mean that he trying to take control.

I agree with what Bob said above in regard to SuperDawg. I also like what SD said about the nutterbypass; his opinion is more than likely the correct response. When we had a more involved moderator, the nutterbypass was a taboo subject, besides being an illegal practice, I suspect.

When John himself was a mod, we *needed* active moderation on this topic to balance out the perspective. It comes up rarely now, and I can always count on Josh to respond with (IMO) the correct response.

Josh, I especially appreciated you comments on this thread. You provided history/insight I had not heard before (third paragraph). Thanks.

I personally find this topic instructive and illuminating because it helps me understand more about the crap the US manufacturers foisted on the public in response to stricter emmissions standards during the 70s and 80s. Rather than do it right, they took the easy/cheap way out. It still amazes me that carburated vehicles were available until the late 80s... decades(!) after they first appeared on the street.

To me it's more challenging to understand and fix what's there. Simply taking off stuff you don't understand is the easy way out. I've reinstalled all the "smog" equipment on my Wagoneer so that I could legally register it. The old 360 runs about as well as can be expected from a "factory rigged" system. Ultimately EFI is the way to go.

Screw these hybrid junkers and their subsidies... there should be Federal program to retrofit EFI onto our oldies!

Speaking of hybrids...I'd keep looking to them to really change 4 wheeling someday not too far from now. Imagine a scaled-down deisel electric with an electric motor powering each individual wheel, independently controlled by computer. ARB's will be a thing of the past....And I will have absolutely no idea what I'm looking at under the hood...

so i am guessing that there is no one here that can help!!
that for all that posted here. i am still going to try and downsize all the hoses and crap from uder my hood. I don't have the money right now to switch to efi. the little money i have i try and fix my jeep one step at a time. the mc2100 carb swap sounded like a cheaper allternative at the time. i bought it and now i am stuck with it for a bit. Someone was mentioning that the pick-up coil could be the problem. or the ignit modual, i am not sure if the modual is faulty though because the jeep does start when i have it in staock wiring and no nutter.??anyone know how to check the modual and test it??

The pics you have on the other site show a really dirty well used module.. For the price of a new one I'd be trying that.. I doubt the problem being in the oickup..
