Getting the Wheeling Fever

Soooooo.... Early this week i began to notice my clutch slipping. So this weekend i am planing on replacing it along with replacing the valevcover gaskets. 1: Is there anything i should read up on in replacing the clutch? 2:What is a good brand to buy and where from? 3:Also on the valvecover gaskets what brand and where to get them? Also is there anything i should replace while i am in the top part of the motor or transmission? thanks Joe

I would go get original parts if I were you. I replaced the clutch in my 95 4Runner with an aftermarket kit and have regretted it ever since. I am just in the process of putting in a new Toyota clutch. Got the tranny back in and am just putting everything else back together. Starter is a pain - just did it tonight. Good thing I don't have to drive the Runner as I have had it in parts for more than a month. Also got valve covers as oil is running down the back of the block. Going to change the pcv and grommet while the plenum is off as it will be much easier.

Go to www.jtoutfitters.com call them and ask them for an "asco" clutch. It's the brand Toyota uses. Like it was said before, replace the pcv valve and grommet while your in there.

speaking of starters Mine has been loose since i bought it ican move it up and down and back and forth i have tried to tighten the botls but they are already tight it looks to be a new starter. and the brakets for the wireing harness are just hanging there would the brakets not being in the starter bolts cause this or could they not have put it on right in the first place thanx also what other gaskets should i get when removeing the intake ect. to get to the valvecovers the only kit that has everything is an head hasket set and that is over $225.00 the valvecover gaskets arent but $19.99. thanx

Your problem could be the "new" starter. Unless its OEM, it's junk. I've seen where they don't bolt up very well or have different mounting holes.
Only gasket you need is the upper plenum gasket. Oh and I think there might be a EGR gasket and a cold start injector gasket.

Yea thats what I've been running for the past few years. Works great. Although I did order it off the web, and got some off brand. I called the shop up and specifically asked for an ASCO brand clutch.
