Getting the Wheeling Fever
99 4runner SR5 V6 manual. Was running fine, this morning wont start. Battery fine, headlights are bright, but turn the switch and no click and no crank, Jump the solenoid wire from the battery and it will start. But... a number of accesories are not working. Turn signals, power windows, moon roof, rear window switch from the dash, radio (including power antanae) all do not work. Headlights, hazards and horn do. Does this sound like an ignition switch problem? I have been checking fuses both under the hood and in the kick panel and they all seem fine. Is there one fuse that feeds the accesories? I dont have an FSM, but have been reading some of the online manuals extensivly and have not yet found one circuit that affects all the parts that dont work. The only common factor seems to be the ignition/column switchs. Help!!!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
An update for anyone else who has this problem. After taking the lower cowl off the dash (4 bolts) I was able to access the ignition switch wiring. By backprobing the switch connector I verified the switch was getting 12v (white wire) but no juice was coming out any of the other wires that leave the junction. New switch ordered, and after further part removal under the dash (some vent work) just two phillips screws hold the back part of the ignition switch on. Replaced, and everything works again.

Glad you figured it out! Isnt self help great?

Now I'm having starting problems. I thought it was the battery because it was turning over slowly, but the battery load tested fine. After work today I turned the key and it clicked, turned again and it started. Guess a starter rebuild is in my near future.

Cool, thanks for posting back.

BTW, I've been using the FSM over in the Taco section for my '99 lately. You can also download yours from www.techinfo.toyota.com for $10.

Glad I did not have to pull the starter, looks like it would require some contortions to get to it. In fact everything on this rig is harder to access than my old 85. I did make use of the Taco manual. Also did a lot of downloading from www.techinfo.toyota.com/ as well. Wish there was a complete pdf for this 99 runner like I got here for my 85 pickup. The Chiltons I found at the library was pretty much useless. I may spring for the real FSM, especially since my next task will probably be the timing belt.

I hear ya on the old Toys. I just got done rebuilding the front end of this '99 (stock plain jane); sure makes the BJ replacement on my 83 and 86 look like a cake walk. Was VERY thankful to have a press and an air hammer at my disposal.
