Need a Spot
Recently, installed the 32/36 carb conversion kit on 87 Monty, Seems to be running fine, slight hesitation when opening up to full throttle, but NEED Explanation for when I turn the vehicle off, it wants to keep sputtering. Any suggestions to stop this or what to do to fix problem.

A new kit? IMO, Running rich or leaky jets.

Try making a touch richer.

I recently had a similar problem with my truck when I kept trying to get it as lean as possible. After a while I ran into a dieseling problem. Made it a touch richer and it went away.

Your timing might also be a little advanced too.

Also look at your plugs really close. If they are running too hot they will cause dieseling. Older engines with alot of carbon build up will diesel too.

My wifes chevette did it really bad. We usually just floored it right after shutting it off. This would almost always stop the dieseling problem in its tracks.

Thanks for the info. It is a brand new kit.

I adjusted the carb a little and it has yet to do it again, Haven't driven it much though.

Now, for ? number 2:

Don't think the electric choke it working. I isolated the electric wire out of the plug hookup and tied the weber electric choke wire into that one. Still don't think it's picking up on a cold start. Any suggestions to make sure the choke is activating?

I hate electric chokes. I have had nothing but problems with them. Go manual, or a water choke.

Depending on your application a manual choke might not be what you want to do. No where to mount the pull knob. And the water one may be a real plumbing pain the arse to install. Given that and the fact you may want to keep your electric choke, try this:

Take the coke housing off with those three little screws. try running a hot lead to it, and ground the case of the choke. See if the spring starts to move when it heats up. If it doesn't its probably defective. If it does check to see if your choke linkage moves freely.

Chime in on this someone please as I don't know if my testing method will damage the heat coil in the choke. As I am unsure if it takes 12V line voltage or if there is a resistor inline some where.

EDIT:
See what you have for voltage at the vehicles lead for the choke. Try running a hot wire to your choke with out pulling it off first and see if it opens. You may not have power on your choke wire.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have the Weber conversion also. How to check for choke operation on a COLD engine is to remove air cleaner. Look inside carb. throat and observe the choke plate in the carb throat. It should be almost vertical(open/no choke setting). Operate the throttle once and the choke plate should almost close.Engine must be cold.
Once the choke plate closes it will not reopen till the choke heater warms the bimetallic spring enough to open the choke back to "no choke/open" setting.
To check choke heater just crank up engine and after several minutes the choke coil will be warm to the touch. If you blip the throttle after warming up you will see choke plate return to the open/no choke setting.
Also check where you are obtaining the power for your choke. You want power to be supplied to the coil anytime the engine is running. I used the +12v side of the ignition coil for my choke heater.
Also the dieseling can be caused if the carb is not adjusted correctly. See the Weber website for setup instructions. If the idle stop is set to high you will have dieseling problems. If my idle is over 900-950 mine will diesel.

There is a lot of Weber experience on the site. Use the "search" function.

Hope this helps- <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try this weekend and see what happens. I'll post an update once I have it figured out. Spoke to a mechanic last night, said the dieseling problem could be related to choke or pulling air from somewhere.
