Need a Spot

I bought an '85 Mighty Max a few weeks ago. The engine runs smooth and starts nicely and the body was good, but the tranny was bad.
I got a tranny from a '88 Montero and installed it. I then found out that on my old tranny the nut on the main shaft was loose, so maybe I could have just fixed that.
I got it licensed and drove it one day then the alternator went out.
I have that at the rebuilders so maybe by the end of the week I will be driving it again.
My friend and his dad upgrade their Fords to 4" exhaust so I have lots of 3" available and I think eventually I will build a new exhaust system with that and no muffler.
I did notice that at 86mph I was about 7/8 throttle. Is this normal?
Do you need special tools to time the injection pump?
