Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does anyone know what (or if?) there is a lift pump on either a D50 or Ford Ranger for the diesel? If so, what pressure does it run at, and where is it mounted? I've looked and asked at parts sites and stores and cannot find even a mention of a pump, let alone a part #. So far everything seems to point to it being part of the injection pump, like a big Cummins or John Deere. My '89 D50 was a gasser and the diesel engine came from a wrecker out of an '86 Ranger.

I have a paper copy of the 1983 parts manual. I'll try to check it in the next few days.

I'd really appreciate that. Thank you. I've kinda checked all over, and come up with nothing.

there is no lift pump...the injection pump does it all!!!! you will have to completely clean your gas tank before you fill it with diesel!!!!! and make sure you plumb up a spin-on fuel filter...the 2.6 Ram 50 tiny fuel filter is pretty much useless....

Thank you. I was hoping that was the case. This engine was out of a Ranger and has a square steel filter about 6" high X 3" wide X 3" deep.

It's been a long few days. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
There is no fuel pump at/in the fuel tank. As stated above, the injection pump does it all.

Need a Spot
There is a fuel lift pump on the Ford Ranger with the 4d55t. It is located almost right underneath the ip and is bolted to the inside of the drivers side frame. It's a cylindrical pump wrapped in insulation.

Pump specs
Pressure Rating:3.8 - 5.7
Gallons Per Hour:16.8

Napa # Mitsubishi Pump NFPP74029
Napa # Napa Pump TFP2P74029

Both pumps are rated the same for gph and pressure.

I need to change my lift pump and for the same price as the original pump can get a lift pump that is rated for 6 to 4.5 psi and 34 gph. If I make the switch to a more powerful lift pump will I need to make other adjustments to the vehicle, adjust the ip? Is this a good modification to increase performance and power? What tunings need to be done to accommodate for the extra lift?
