 Replacing front oil seal.

ok i got the 2.3 diesel truck torn down: radiator pulled, fan pulled, belts gone, and front pully on crankshaft off. now im hung up on the back pully on the crank shaft. i cant pull the bottom timing cover till i pull this it seams. is there a special way to remove this.

Small gear/pulley puller? Is there a woodruff key in the snout?

no its just a bolt that holds it on i used the impact to get it loosened and then used a steering wheel puller to get it off.

yea on my 2.5 Pajero the front crank stub had some rust on it...took me about 3 hours to get the pulley off without damaging it. a little scotchbrite and some moly paste made it like new again...next time should be a breeze. you should get yourself some moly paste, it is the most amazing stuff.

good god is there alot of things to take off and loosen to get that cover off. all the belts radiator sprockets on the bottom oil pan oil pickup water pump. i think im just gonna get new gaskets for the oil pan and lower case and new oil seal and do it all at once. oh yah also i had to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor a lil to get one bolt on the oil pan. at least im learning a lil on how these diesels work by doin this myself.

Make sure you check the gear on the front that the seal lip rides against. If it has a deep groove you will need a new gear. I have these If you need one.
