My buddy has a 93 Trooper with a 3.2 V-6. He is having a problem in regards to the following.

He has told me that it idles great, and for the most part runs well. The issue is that under acceleration, the engine bogs down and black smoke pours out of the exhaust. The check engine light comes on as well. Can you guys give me a check list of things to check? I am fairly inclined, so don't be afraid to get a little technical. Thanks!

Since you are unable to return a phone call...

Here is the list (drug up for your laziness from Search).

1) O2 Sensors (ding ding ding)
2) Temp Sensor
3) FPR (really probably tied with O2 sensors)
5) MAF (less likely)
6) Clogged cat (maybe)
7) Dirty air filter (it had better not be this or I am going to come down there and bop you on the head)
8) Coils/wires (more likely than the MAF)

Good Luck,
Michael

in addition to that list:
the first thing would be to jumper the diagnostic connector and read the codes.

because of my experience on my 1992 3.2 v6, i would head to the last on the list -- ignition coils, ignition module (under the coils), wires and plugs, since these can be intermittent and show when under load. also check to make sure the connectors are all seated on the plugs and that oil contamination at the plug connector down the tubes isn't shorting out ignition under load.

but none of that set any OBDI codes, so check the codes first imo.

1992 sohc trooper 3.2l v6 automatic . . . as is

i love a good intermittent electrical challenge. . .especially when it's someone else's.
