Possible to make torsion bars quiet? Can't sneak in woods! #844665 11/01/07 01:50 PM

Hey fellas,

Deer hunting season is in full swing here in TN. With my GEN 1 there is no way for me to sneak into the woods. My Torsion bars creak so loud I might as well be playing rap music over a pa system as far as the deer are concerned.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

It may not be the bars, per se, but rather the lower front mounting points, a.k.a. the lower a-arm pivot points. Mine would squeal like crazy. There are no grease fittings there, so I just douse both ends of the a-arm with WD-40 and they're quiet for a week or so. Hope that helps.

I'll soak it with the WD and see what happens.

Thanks.

As for the bars, if you can white lithium grease in there, it will last longer than others.

I tried spray lithium grease, but it wouldn't get in to where it made a difference. Sometimes I'd WD-40 it first, then add a layer of the grease to help hold it in there, too. As I recall, that did about the same thing as just the WD-40 by itself.

Mine has bearing grease packed into both splines front and rear. Never squeaks.
