im plastgaging my rod bearings right now. what are the specs they should be at?

If you dont have it already, check the sticky and download a FSM. Will help you out alot.
Rod bearing
Max = 0.10 mm
Standard = 0.025 - 0.055 mm

I would not even think about rebuilding an engine with out an FSM sitting on the work bench.

In domestic sizes, I use a minimum of .0008" and these will run fine at .0025". Past that I start measuring the rod big end and the main line, plus the shaft crankpin looking for why. The actual bearing crush (friction) is all that keeps the bearing shell in place, if the bearing spins the engine dies.

What we never want to see is a large difference, if reasonably consistant, bolt her up....*EB
