Need a Spot
My passenger side wiper blade goes down too far and then gets stuck. It goes overcenter on the pivot (shaft) and will not move.
I checked the 'spindle' for proper location on the cowl and the slot is lined up.
Perhaps I should cut a new slot in the cowling and have the spindle rotated more clockwise?
Would shortening (maybe by bending) the linkage going to the passenger side help?
Is this a sign of worn linkage bushings? I have examined it and it doesn't seem to have extra play.

This is very dangerous.
I have tried removing the passenger side wiper arm so this does not happen, but the visibility on only having the driver side window clear, sucks.

Anyone know the solution?

PS:I have even considered using a 'bumper' (stopper-limiter) screwed to the hood cowling to limit the travel of the wiper .

What year vehicles use the same linkage?
Thanks.
PS: Were your wipers doing the same thing?

Whoops, I replied to the other wiper-problem thread by mistake. Fortunately, it was gracefully ignored.

If you haven't already, check to make sure that the pivot for the passenger-side blade is tightly secured to the cowl. If the pivot is wiggling in the hole, or there is flex due to weakness in the metal, the linkage will lock up.

Thanks, it is possible that the metal is slightly weak on the cowling. The 'pivot' spindle had slipped slightly counter clock wise from its notch, which is slightly distorted, and that area is slightly worn. I have used a shim and a small wedge to get it to stay in its lineup slot, where it was supposed to go, and it helped some for awhile. I think I will try to put another slot in there slightly (1/8") clockwise (towards drivers side)of where the old one was and see what happens.
If you get a lot of snow on the vehicle overnight (and forgetting to pull the wipers off the windshield), the snow slides down and pushes that wiper down past the overcenter point.
Or, if the wiper blades ice up heavily while driving, the passenger blade will soon go overcenter and lock up the system. Very dangerous.
Seems like a poor design, overall.

Anyone else have similar problems and a solution that works for them.

Thanks again Binksomatic. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
