My Jeep recently stopped running. I was told that i had a bad cps so i changed it. Now my Jeep will start, but it does not run right. To be more specific, it struggles to idle especially when in drive or reverse. Some guy just told me that i was supposed to adjust the cps when i installed it but i did not. I have noticed that i have a weaker spark from the coil and wires out of the distributor. Before the cps went the jeep was running good and i had great spark. I also had put in a new cap, rotor, wires, plugs while trying to determine why the damn thing would not start (before i changed the cps). If anyone has any advice that may help i would greatly appreciate it. I just can't seem to get this thing to run smooth while in idle (runs decent at higher rpms). <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

There is a thing called the IAC (idle air control) That is in the throttle body. I'd be pulling the iac and cleaning both it and the throttle body..just to see if my idle changed. These things get a bit of dirt in them and go haywire.. A new IAC may be in your future.

As an aside the cps usually causes many more problems than just the idle.. You may not have needed a cps.

Jim the reason i believe the cps was bad was because it stopped running completely (stalled a few times, then quit completely). After changing the cps it ran again but rough. Was i supposed to "gap" it? And if i was and didn't, could this be why it is running so rough in idle and have weaker spark?
